Holiday Pitching Clinic – Grades K – 3 @ Future Stars
Dec 7 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Take some time out from your holiday shopping and decorating as OGSL is putting on one last pitching clinic for 2019.  We have a great resource for the month of December only as Jen Deering, current Fitness and Pitching Coach at Santa Clara University, will be running our pitching clinic.  Get your daughter’s pitching arm warmed up for the upcoming spring season.  This will be a clinic you will not want to miss.

*Please note that the location has changed due to wet field conditions.   Please plan on attending rain or shine.  Future Stars’ facility has a turf field and a covered batting/pitching cage

Parents, please note that your attendance and participation is critical as we need you to be your daughter’s catcher.

Please RSVP to Chris Zonca at chrisz129@yahoo.com.  Drop-ins are welcome too.

So don’t be a grinch.  Have your daughter come out and pitch!

**Please note that NCAA rules do not allow current coaches to work clinics with student-athletes who are in the 7th grade or higher.  Thank you for your understanding.

Oakland Vipers 14U ELITE Tryouts — SPRING 2020 @ Curt Flood Field
Dec 15 @ 10:00 am

APPLICATION FORM

Tryouts for the Oakland Vipers 14U Elite team for Spring, 2020 will be held Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at CURT FLOOD FIELD.

The Vipers continue a strong and successful run of highly competitive, Elite teams, to compete in PGF and AST tournaments in Northern California.  The team will begin conditioning in January, 2020, and start practices in February.  Tournaments will begin late February or early March, with practices to be held once weekly before Daylight Savings, and twice weekly thereafter. Successful Vipers are motivated by fun, personal and team success, and by 100% hustle!

Spring Vipers will be head coached by Jonathan Klein, long-time Vipers Elite Head Coach.  Coach Klein’s daughters played Vipers and high school ball at Oakland Tech, he has helped players land in nationally-recognized college programs, and he also currently coaches the Vipers 16U Elite program in Summer and Fall. Coach Klein recently completed three seasons as an Assistant Coach at Piedmont High School, and will be joined by other highly experienced coaches from the Bay Area, all with significant travel and/or high school coaching experience.

Players should plan to warmup on their ownarriving suitably in advance of the 9:30 start time to be ready.  Players will be evaluated on attitude, hustle, team spirit, and enthusiasm, as well as on their individual hitting, fielding, throwing, and running skills.  Pitchers and catchers should plan to stay AFTER the conclusion of the full team tryout for separate review.  (Catchers should bring their own equipment or notify us in advance if equipment is needed.)

All Spring 14U Elite players are guaranteed a spot on Vipers Summer and Fall teams, if desired.  However, placement on a particular team (Elite, or 14U “B”) will depend on team needs, player availability, and player skill, success and effort.

Players interested in trying out should submit the attached tryout application in advance, (kindly send as early as possible), to Coach Klein at jaklein@khiplaw.com.

Viper 12B tryouts – Spring/Summer 2020 @ Curt Flood Field
Feb 9 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

We are pleased to announce the tryout for the 12U B Vipers for Spring/Summer 2020.  Eligible players must NOT be older than 12 years of age on 1 January 2020 in order to tryout for the team.

The tryout will be held at Curt Flood Field in Oakland on 9 February 2020 at 10 AM.  Please arrive early to warm up. The tryout will begin promptly at 10:00 AM and we will not be performing group warm up exercises. The field will be available for warm up activities at 9:00 AM.

Bats and helmets will be made available for anyone who needs them.  Please bring a glove and any other gear your player normally uses in softball games.  Catcher gear will be available. Water is available on site but it is wise to bring your own.

Please follow the link below to register for the tryout.  You will find a short questionnaire requesting information about your player and her availability for practices and tournaments.

Click here for a document describing the skills that will be performed at the tryout.  Please review this document prior to attending and feel free to refer any questions to Richard James (richard.james@redbootconstruction.com 510.866.7441).  Both the tryout score and prior performance will be used to evaluate the players. We make every effort to ensure a fair tryout environment and to consider each player on their merits as opposed to their familiarity.

Vipers is the travel softball program associated with the Piedmont Baseball and Softball Foundation and Oakland Girls Softball League.  This travel program is important to OGSL/PBSF and showcases the most skilled players within our age divisions.  Teams compete locally and regionally. As a competitive team, versus a recreational team, players will not receive equal playing time. The goal is to introduce competition while maintaining the fun and enjoyment that makes players stay with the game for life.  Players typically focus on one or two positions. We are proud to field competitive Bay Area teams and hope that your player will continue the traditions and success established by our current and former players.

Thanks for your interest in the Vipers and good luck at the tryout,

Coach Rich
