We are holding player assessments for 12/14U from 11:00am-12:30pm on Saturday, January 22nd at Curt Flood Field in Oakland. The address is 3303 Laguna Way, Oakland, CA 94602. Please plan to arrive 20-30m early so that players have time to warm-up adequately. The assessment process will begin promptly at 11am.
The last ~20 minutes will be for pitchers and catchers.
The assessment process is NOT A TRYOUT. The intention is for the coaches to get a sense of the skill level of all players, so that we can construct balanced and fun teams throughout the division. Team assignments will be determined during the week following assessments. If your player is unable to attend the assessment, please let me know - all players will be assigned to a team. The more players that participate in the assessment process, the better; but we understand that conflicts and other issues arise.
What to bring to the assessments:
- Glove
- Bat & Helmet
- Comfortable softball clothes
- Sliding shorts (under softball pants) preferred - but if your player does not know how to slide they are not necessary! (They will learn this Spring)
- Appropriate shoes - plastic/molded cleats are preferred, but athletic shoes are ok (plastic/molded cleats are required for the season)
- Water bottle
If you are in need of any equipment, OGSL will have spare equipment for you to use and take with you, including bats, gloves, and helmets. We’ll have catchers equipment for the catchers.
COVID-19 safety: masks will be required to be worn by all players, parents, and coaches. Safe social distancing will be enforced. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell!
Also, note that there are NO BATHROOM FACILITIES at Curt Flood at this time, so please plan appropriately!
What to expect:
- Fun!
- All players will hit off a pitching machine
- Some base running
- Some fielding drills
- Pitchers will throw pitchers to a catcher
- Catchers with catch a pitcher
All girls should see this as a fun opportunity to get some softball activity in before practices start. Everyone will be placed on a team, and we have a great set of coaches lined up for 2022.
